- Cold Throw — the scent you can smell when the candle is unlit.
- Hot Throw — the fragrance released when the candle is burning.
A great candle should excel at both, giving you a strong, noticeable scent even before you strike a match — and a room‑filling aroma once it’s lit.
The Wax Matters More Than You Think
Wax is the foundation of scent throw. Different waxes hold and release fragrance differently:
- Soy wax (used in your candles) releases fragrance slowly and evenly, giving a long-lasting, consistent scent.
- Paraffin releases fragrance quickly but burns faster and hotter.
